Definite integral
The net area between the graph of a function f and an interval [a, b] on the x-axis is the area of the region that is below the graph of f and above the interval [a, b], minus the area of the region that is above the graph of f and below the interval [a, b].
The net area is the area of the green
regions minus the area of the red regions.The net area function is
drawn in brown.
The net area is called the definite integral of f .
