Parametric

If $x\left( t\right) $ and $y\left( t\right) $ are functions of $t$, then the point MATH traces out a curve, called a parametric curve. The variable $t$ is called a parameter and often represents time.

Surfaces in $\QTR{Bbb}{R}^{3}$ can be represented parametrically. Given scalar functions MATH, MATH, and MATH, the set of points MATH in $\QTR{Bbb}{R}^{3}$ is called a parametric surface.
