Definite integral

The net area between the graph of a function f and an interval [a, b] on the x-axis is the area of the region that is below the graph of f and above the interval [a, b], minus the area of the region that is above the graph of f and below the interval [a, b].

The net area is the area of the green regions minus the area of the red regions.The net area function is drawn in brown.
