Geometric series

The geometric series a + ar + ar2 + ar3 + ar4 + ··· is determined by its initial term a and its ratio r. If |r| < 1, the series converges to $\dfrac{a}{1-r}$. If |r| ≥ 1 and a ≠ 0, it diverges.

The sequence a, ar, ar2, ar3, ar4, иии is called a geometric progression. Each term is a fixed multiple of the previous term.
